Macy Eve 01Macy Eve Watson was born yesterday, Wednesday, August 22, 2007, at 1:40 p.m. (according to all the official documents; however, upon video playback, it actually happened closer to 1:45 p.m.). She weighed 8 lbs. 1.8 oz., was 21 inches long, and has a thick head of dark, curly hair.

The experience was completely different from Micah’s birth, which involved a 36 hour labor, a cervix that wouldn’t dilate, 2 epidurals (one of which stopped working and the other never worked), etc, etc. Macy’s birth, on the other hand, wasn’t necessarily easier (says Robin), but everything was so much shorter.

We got to the hospital at 7am for Robin to be induced, though, ironically, Robin’s contractions were already 5 minutes apart and getting more intense. When the nurse saw that she said, “You won’t need much pitocin!”

And she didn’t. By about 10am, the contractions were strong enough to need an epidural. The contractions continued, but they didn’t hurt—and Robin was oh so happy!

At noon, I asked the nurse if she thought I’d be safe to make a quick Burger King run. She said yes. Robin was 4cm dilated and continuing to dilate at about 1cm per hour. At that rate, Macy wouldn’t be born till 6pm.

So, I ran to Burger King and was back by 12:30. Robin’s mom and I ate while Robin rested. At about 1:10, Robin’s contractions got really strong—really strong! At 1:20, the nurse walked in and saw that Robin was not comfortable. So she checked Robin and found that she was 10cm!! She had jumped 6cm in just over an hour!!

At shortly after 1:30, the doctor arrived. And at 1:45, Macy Eve made her appearance!

We couldn’t believe how quickly it all happened in the end. And I’m so grateful that she didn’t decide to come while I was at Burger King! I didn’t know it at the time, but that was a close call!

We brought Micah over at around 5pm. He gave her a gift that he had picked out and wrapped himself—a package of 2 binkies (pacifiers, for those who don’t speak baby-talk). He was so excited! And it was absolutely adorable. Then we gave him a truck, which was Macy’s gift to Micah. Yes, I think he likes her! The cutest thing was that whenever Macy cried, Micah said, “It’s ok, baby sister!” And he would repeat every now and then, “She come out Mommy tummy!”

Today, we came home at about 2:30 p.m. We’re exhausted, but we’re so excited to be mommy and daddy a second time! I’ll keep you posted on how Macy’s doing. In the meantime, here are some pics and vids.
